A Sacrament of Initiation
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)—formerly known as RCIA—is the process through which adults prepare to become full members of the Catholic Church. It is designed for those who have never been baptized, those baptized in another Christian tradition who seek full communion with the Catholic Church, and baptized Catholics who have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
What to Expect in OCIA
- Learning about the Catholic faith, Scripture, and traditions
- Deepening one’s relationship with Christ and the Church
- Participating in liturgical rites marking different stages of the journey
- Becoming part of a supportive faith community
Who Can Join?
- Adults seeking Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (Catechumens)
- Baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Catholic Church (Candidates)
- Catholics needing Confirmation and/or Eucharist
Process & Timeline
